Creating Board Games

In this class, students will use their imaginations to design and construct original board games. We will choose themes, game rules, strategies, and board designs. Then we’ll lay out and decorate the playing boards, create playing cards and pieces, and put our creations into action. Let’s play!
Comics and Manga

Let's explore the worlds where pictures and words come together to tell stories in this comics and manga class! As we read and create comics, students will practice drawing while they develop storytelling and writing skills. In this class, students will learn and practice illustration techniques using tools like nonphoto blue pencils, dip pens and bristol board to create finished comic/manga pieces. Students can create their own illustrated worlds with characters and conflicts, following diverse story structures that lead to conclusions or cliffhangers! This class supports all competencies in social emotional learning, encourages creativity and leaning into challenge to nurture critical thinking skills and adaptability.
Printmaking

Planar Printing; Cyanotypes and Serigraphs (Screen Printing). Students will have an opportunity to do Cyanotype prints with hand drawn negatives, create Stencil Screen prints with hand cut stencils, and a Serigraph using hand drawn negatives to burn a screen, and print images. Students will also be able to create a screen printed t-shirt.
Smartphone Photography

This course will give smartphone users the opportunity to take control of their image-making with their devices. From holding the smartphone for the sharpest images to understanding how to adjust the smartphone camera for exposure. Additionally, students will learn to edit their images using applications such as Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Snapseed, and others. Students will solidify their learnings through specific assignments leading to a portfolio of images to be printed for the final day exposition.This course is perfect for anyone who enjoys making images with their smartphone whether it be for personal use or for school projects.
Theater Workshop

Let’s put on a show! Work together to perform an original play of our own creation! Students will choose a topic or a theme, research and explore that theme, improvise, write, rehearse, and finally perform a new, short play for family and friends! No acting experience is necessary; we’ll find a role for everyone!
